During the cold winter months chapped lips are a huge problem that many people, including myself, face. While may people go straight for the lip balm, lip scrub is the best option. The only problem is it costs a lot to get a decent one, luckily though they are super easy to make from everyday kitchen ingredients.
All you need is:
-Sugar , you can use any I chose brown
-Petroleum Jelly or an old lip balm (you only need a bit)
-Optional- Oil, I used olive
-Optional- Flavouring, I wanted peppermint but couldn't find it so I used vanilla
- A container, I used an old Starbucks mint container
-A teaspoon, I used a measure and also a regular spoon to mix
-A bowl, you can mix in the container but its just really awkward.
This recipe is very much guesstimate, you add what you think but I will give a rough guide.
First, add 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp sugar and about a 1 cm slice of lip balm, mix this together to form a gooey, lumpy mess.
If your not adding the oil/ flavouring keep mixing until you get a better consistency.Keep adding sugar and honey until you have the amount you want and it forms a mixture that looks something like this.
If you are adding the oil/ flavouring (I find it is better to add the oil as it will make it easier to get this consistency) do this now. Add approximately 1/2 tsp oil and a few drops of flavouring and mix. Now also keep adding sugar and honey until you have the amount you require and it looks something like the above. Now put it in the container.
Spread it until it fills the container. Leave it to settle at room temperature for an hour or so and then put it in the fridge. It should last up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
Apply to lips and leave on for 2-3 minutes and then wipe off with a a piece of kitchen roll and apply lip balm, use twice a week or so and you will have beautiful-y soft lips.
